Richard was born to parents George and Georgia Keen on January 22, 1936 in McCook, Nebraska. He served his country as part of the United States Army and was deployed to Korea and was also stationed in Nevada as part of classified atomic bomb testing in the 1950’s. He moved to Denver, Colorado after his military service to pursue his career as an auto body repairman. While living in Denver, he met his future wife Shirley Schwab and the two of them eloped to New Mexico in 1962. He had a long successful career in the auto repair industry working for multiple car dealerships. In addition, he was self-employed working with his lifetime friend and business partner, Jim Hockman, as owners of Continental Coach and K&H Frame and Body Repair. He retired in 1996.
He enjoyed playing golf, painting, and carving. He was a multitalented man who could visualize a picture and then re-create it in a painting or drawing. He also liked carving wood and created many cartoon-like characters. He worked hard to make sure his family was well provided for and loved celebrating holidays or birthdays by taking everyone to dinner.
Richard is survived by his son, Rick, and his wife Amy; his daughter, Holly; a brother Frank and his wife Carol; and one sister, Rose Marie. He also has three grandchildren, Taylor, Madeline, and Meagan. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Georgia, his wife Shirley, as well as a sister Pauline, and a brother, Raymond.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday April 18th at the Howe Mortuary Chapel. A reception will follow the service. Internment will take place at a later date at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
