

Richard ""Dick"" Perry, M.D., of Longmont, Colorado, died May 31, 2008, at his residence. He was 80.Dick was born September 7, 1927, in Denver, Colorado, to William and Mildred (Woodward) Perry. The family moved through the years, ending up largely in New York. He attended Manlius School, a military prep school in upstate New York.Dick was recruited by West Point Military Academy where he was active in basketball, football, and baseball. Following his graduation from West Point, he entered World War II as a 2nd Lieutenant. He would later serve in the Korean War and received two overseas bars for his efforts in both wars as well as the rank of 1st Lieutenant.Dick would return from the war with a desire to pursue medicine. He graduated from New York Medical College in New York City. Choosing pathology as his area of specialty, Dr. Perry was the first pathologist at Loveland Memorial Hospital in Loveland, Colorado. He would later join the staff of Sharp Hospital in San Diego, California. He lectured and taught on several topics in his field including cytotechnology, hematology, and training for technologists for medical laboratory and cytology certification.On June 25, 1990, Dick married Deborah Tews in Las Vegas, Nevada.Upon retirement, Dick returned to Colorado. He loved to ski and enjoyed skiing with his daughters. He was a passionate golf player at Star Dust in San Diego and at Fox Hill Country Club in Longmont. Later in life he sought out different interests. He learned to fly and also built an airplane with his brother, Bob. He also took art classes, learning oil and watercolor painting. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Bob Perry, and former wife, Jean Naramore Perry.Surviving are his wife, Deborah of Longmont; four daughters, Robin Whyte and her husband, Mike, of Upland, CA, Debbie Olsen and her husband, John, of San Diego, CA, Renee Preston of Tahlequah, OK, and Angie Tews of Longmont; a brother, William Perry of Aurora, CO; and five grandchildren. A cremation has been entrusted to Howe Mortuary and Cremation Services.Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel with Mr. William Perry officiating. Interment will be held at Ft.
