Robert “Bob” Eugene Bennett died on July 23, 2025, in Longmont, Colorado at the age of 81. Bob was born on October 4, 1943, in St. Francis, Kansas to John and Irene Bennett. When Bob was a young child he moved to a farm near Byers, Colorado with his mother, father and older sister, Roberta. Bob worked hard with his dad on the farm and enjoyed riding his horse to bring the neighbors’ cattle home. His mother was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was four years old. For that reason, she taught him household skills that his future wife and family appreciated. He graduated from Deer Trail High School in 1961.
After high school Bob worked on missile sites in eastern Colorado and southern Wyoming. During this time, he met his future wife, Millie Stephens, through mutual friends. During his free time, Bob liked to ride bare back bronc in rodeos. In February 1965, Bob was drafted into the army. He trained at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Biloxi, Mississippi. He served in Vietnam as an air traffic controller near An Khe, Vietnam. When Bob returned from Vietnam, he moved to Denver and married Millie in 1967. That same year Bob started work at the IBM plant in Boulder, Colorado, where he worked until he retired 46 years later.
During Bob’s tenure at IBM, he and Millie moved to Fremont, California for 7 years. In that time, they were blessed with three children: Robyn Figueroa, Karyn Bennett White and Kyle Bennett. They returned to Colorado, settling in Longmont in 1979.
Bob was always busy with a project around the house. He enjoyed gardening, working around the house and on cars. He was an expert woodworker. Bob was a faithful Christian and member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Mead, Colorado. He loved to be with his family and to give helpful advice to his grandkids. He liked camping in the mountains and took his family on several road trips around the country in his red pickup truck and camper. He was always willing to help a neighbor or family member with a project.
