

Rudy was born on August 7, 1943, in Pueblo, Colorado to Ramon and Epifania (Hernandez) Nuñez where he grew up with his seven siblings. He graduated from Central High School in 1961.
He was dedicated to his country and served under the US Navy. He continued a civilian career with the government and retired after 39 years.
While stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas he met his wife, Yolanda. They were married on May 3, 1964, and blessed with a son, Lenny, in 1976. After his discharge they returned to Pueblo, Colorado where he was employed as a mail courier. In 1973 he transferred to the FAA, and he became an Air Traffic Controller. In 1987, he accepted a position with the Department of Commerce, NOAA. He retired in 2007 with 39 years of federal service.
Rudy was a very warm and caring man who was always ready with his beautiful smile and welcoming grin. He loved dancing almost as much as he loved getting together with family and friends reminiscing of life’s adventures. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, poker tournaments and hosting block parties during the Broncos season.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Epifania, his beloved grandmother Bernarda “Yaya” Velasquez, his sisters Eva Kenworthy, Virginia Thomas (Robert), Genevieve Nealley and his brother Ysabel “Izzy” Nuñez and brother-in-law Ralph “Blackie” Gonzalez.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Yolanda, his son Lenny, sisters Ramona Stanard, Vivian Texeria and Angie Gonzalez, he is further survived by his brother-in-law Ron Nealley and sister-in-law Delilah Nuñez and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who came to know and love him.
A visitation for Rudy will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Howe Mortuary & Crematory located at 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado. On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Rosary Prayers will commence at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, located at 3791 Pike Road, Longmont, Colorado. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served at 11:30 a.m. in St. Clare Hall at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church. At 1:00 p.m. Rudy will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery located at 620 11th Avenue, Longmont, Colorado. Following the committal service a reception will be held at the American Legion Post 32 located at 315 South Bowen Street, Longmont, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to TRU Community Care Hospice of Longmont, Colorado.
