Ron is survived by his wife of 59 years, Loretta; his four children Cheryl (Brian) Poteet of Elbert County, Krista Dillion of Longmont, Keith (Cortney) Dillion of Denver, and Carla (Michael) Jordan of Loveland; along with 3 grandchildren Amber (Shane) Mitchell of Peoria, Arizona, Cassidy (Bradley) Burwick of Warrensburg, Missouri, and Grady Dillion of Denver. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Orville Glen Dillion.
Ron was born on September 1, 1943 in Mexico, Missouri to Joel Orville and Leona Belle (Butler) Dillion. Ron grew up on the family farm near Middletown, Missouri. After graduating from Wellsville R-1 High School, he attended the University of Missouri, Rolla where he earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he married Loretta Ann Hill on January 23, 1965 and they moved to New York. Later, he earned his MS from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He used his engineering and software skills while working for many large and small companies throughout his long professional career. After their last big move, Ron and Loretta settled with their four children in Longmont, Colorado in 1980.
Ron enjoyed driving on family road trips to new destinations. He liked working on home projects and building things with his hands. He constantly researched and read about new topics and kept up with new technology. He was always up for a thoughtful discussion about a wide range of topics from woodworking to politics to physics. In his retirement, he discovered a passion for cooking and shared his creations with others. Above all, he considered his family his greatest accomplishment.
A memorial for friends and family is being planned. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, or the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation.
