They both entered into rest in their home of 53 years in Longmont, Colorado within a couple of years and a few day of each other with family present.
The couple met at the Aragon Tavern in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Rudy was raised in Rocky Ford, Colorado where he graduated from RFHS in 1959; Char was raised in Fowler, Colorado. Shortly after the two met, it was obvious their small town love had blossomed. They then married and moved to Denver, Colorado for a brief time eventually settling down for a lifetime of prosperity and family in Longmont, Colorado with their 3 sons.
Rudy worked for the FAA until August 3, 1981. He was employed with the government agency for many years until “The Strike.” With this life altering change, Rudy and Char took it with great stride and opened the family based restaurant, Deli Cioso in April of 1982. The original location on S. Pratt Parkway (aka, “The Shack”) became a Longmont staple for Authentic Mexican Food. In 1988, they relocated to the final location -- 1217 S. Main Street. Their family, friends and patrons have had countless memories due to the couple’s huge hearts and generosity for over 30 years. Priding the couple by winning many community based awards and voted “Best of Longmont” for their famous pork green chili, Azteca, and various Mexican dishes.
The couple is survived by their sons Rudolph Masias Jr, Kent Masias (Andrea), and Christopher Masias; grandchildren Amanda Fallon, Rudy Masias III, Deni Masias, Haley Masias, Kassidy Masias, Ella-Rose Masias and Pryscilla Masias; great granddaughter Rhiannon Masias; parent Albert Manchego; brothers Robert “Bobby” Masias (Sheila), Edward Masias (Rita), Terry Masias (Peggy) and Ernie Manchego (Kathy); sisters Cindy Masias Cordova (Joe), Priscilla Masias (Vince), Roberta Masias, Virgie Manchego Aragon (Floyd), Esther Manchego Castro, Martha Manchego Kesterson (Jim), Henry Manchego Smith (Jim), and Rita Manchego Kesterson.
The couple was preceded in death by parents Eliseo “Joe” Masias, Cipriana Madrid and Rafaela Portillo Manchego; brother Eliseo “Joe” Masias (Kathy) and James Masias; and sister Linda Masias Pantoya (Frank).
A memorial mass for Rudolph will be held Friday, May 13, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 323 Collyer Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501. Following the memorial mass will be a committal service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mountain View Cemetery, 620 11th Street, Longmont, Colorado 80501 followed by a reception at the American Legion from 2 - 6pm, 315 S. Bowen St, Longmont.
