Sally Jean Cushman was born in a car during a snowy May Day in 1957 in Longmont, Co. She passed away suddenly on July 8, 2025, at her home in Frederick, Co., with her devoted husband, Kelly, by her side. She was 68 years old.
She was proud of her Longmont upbringing and worked hard to maintain all family ties throughout the region. Sally is the descendant of pioneers on her paternal side (the Cushmans and the Shermans) who settled much of the St. Vrain Valley, dating back to the 19th century. Her maternal family (the Schells and the Kloberdanzs) were German-immigrant farmers who also contributed greatly to the Longmont and surrounding communities.
Sally graduated from Longmont High School in 1975, where she played clarinet in the marching band and raised calves for 4H projects. She was working at the old roller skating rink when she met her husband, Kelly Harmon, also a graduate of Longmont HS. Sally and Kelly spent many nights cruising Main Street with their family and friends, making their own mark on the Longmont scene.
She became Sally Harmon on October 5, 1975, when she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Kelly, in St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont, Co. Together, they raised three daughters in Broomfield, Co., built a successful business, spoiled their five grandkids, traveled, and golfed; and always had a fabulous time.
As a mother she was devoted to the individual needs and personalities of each of her girls, shuttling them between ice skating, soccer, volleyball, 4H, and Cathecism. Her proudest achievement in life was becoming a “Grammy.” She lovingly referred to her grandkids as, “My Babies,” famously spoiling them with unending love and silliness. Recently, the entire Harmon family fulfilled the lifelong dream of taking an Alaskan cruise, in celebration of Kelly and Sally’s fifty years of marriage.
Sally’s strong work ethic carried her through multiple careers. She adored Native American culture and traveled the country for many years, selling designer Native jewelry at rodeos and state fairs. For decades, she and her husband Kelly built a successful construction business that blossomed throughout the Denver metro area. Sally retired from Front Range Bank of Longmont just one year ago, where she finished her lifelong banking career.
In addition to her husband, Kelly (Frederick, Co), Sally is survived by her three daughters and five grandchildren. Daughter Melanie Harmon Barrow (Jamie Barrow), daughter Valerie Harmon, and daughter Katie Harmon Sanchez (Uriel Sanchez). She is also survived by her five grandchildren: grandson Benjamin Charles “Benny,” granddaughters Meadow Amelia, Breanna Jean, Miley Anastasiya, and Madelyn Aliyah “Cookie.” Sally is also survived by family members: sister Shelly Cushman Jackson (Bill Jackson), and brother Dwayne Cushman (Elle Cushman). Along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. She is preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Schell Cushman, and her father, Charles Hobart “Charlie” Cushman, both of Longmont, Co.
Sally’s unique style and flair will forever go unmatched. Guests attending the Celebration of Life are asked to dress in “Western-Sally Chic” (Turquoise, sterling silver, Native American jewelry, cowboy boots, bright colors).
