Shawn Colton Herring, 31 years old, of Fort Lupton, Colorado, left this earth to ride alongside our Lord on June 13, 2015. He passed away at Longmont United Hospital from a sudden illness. Shawn was born in Longmont, Colorado on December 9th 1983 to Dave and Roxie Herring. He graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 2002. Shawn married Joleen Martin on June 6th, 2009 in Boone, Colorado. He was a loving devoted father of Wyatt Marshall Herring and the adored brother of Justin Herring and Mason Zeiger. He was also a dear best friend and cousin to Kelly Mason-Davis. Shawn was a working cowboy and was employed on several ranches and feedlots throughout Colorado. He knew he wanted to be a cowboy from the day he was born. Shawn was an accomplished rancher, horseman, horsesh r, and roper. He was a member of the Northern Colorado Cowboys High School Rodeo Team, and earned the privilege of competing in several National Little Britches Rodeo Finals and High School State Finals. Shawn loved to compete in calf roping, team roping, and ranch rodeos, and when he was not competing he was flagging or working for the stock contractors. He was truly handy both in and out of the arena. Shawn loved to work on the ranch and lived every aspect of his life according to the cowboy way. Southern Colorado is where he met and worked side by side with his wife and soulmate Jo who is just as western as Shawn. He and Jo worked for ranches, feed lots, and rodeod together in his chosen country of Southern Colorado, which was his second home. These two lived their lives as one and enjoyed working outside tending to the ranch and at the end of the day they always loved each other. Shawn loved the big wide open country of Southern Colorado, because it allowed him to ride his horse, swing a rope, and pack a gun. He started working in the feedlot that his dad managed when he was three years old. Shawn lived the lifetimes of ten men in the few short years he was with us. He could ride just about anything he cinched his saddle to, he started riding colts at nine years old, and he trained several good horses that folks now ranch on, compete on, and enjoy today. Shawn learned to be a horsesh r from his dad Dave, he developed into a skillful craftsman who was able to sh broncs, performance horses, lame horses, and drafts or ponies alike. From his mother, Shawn learned to sew and how to design and build anything that came to his mind. Shawn learned how to mechanic from his brother Justin, and they were truly best friends. He was a wonderful dad and uncle, who always took time to be one of the kids. Shawn was the kindest most giving man we have ever known. He would help anyone at any time, and was willing to give anything he had to help a friend or family member, and he never expected anything in return. He donated his time, horses, and heart to aid children with disabilities so they could learn the love of a horse and then would help them learn to ride. He cared for several elders in their last years of life and took care of their every need to the end. Shawn was a mentor to numerous kids, and was always willing to offer his knowledge and advice so the next generation could succeed. What we will miss most about Shawn is his cowboy wit and humor that he inherited from his mom Roxie and Grandpa Don Wilson.
