Shirley Ann Huffman was a five-year resident of The Longmont Regent where she enjoyed the friendship and activities of both staff and other residents. She was also a member of Bible Baptist Church in Erie.
Shirley was born in North Branch, Minnesota to Julia Swanson (age 51) and Rudolph Ostrom (age 54) on June 17, 1930 at 3:00 pm. She had four older brothers and two older sisters (ages 10-26).
After attending Minnesota School of Business, Shirley’s sister Mildred invited her to come to Anchorage Alaska. Hoyt Curtis Huffman was serving in the Air Force and attending First Baptist Church of Anchorage. Shirley always said, “It was love at first sight.” They met in October 1953, married in Mobile, Alabama on July 2, 1954, and moved to Ada, Oklahoma where Hoyt graduated from East Central College. When he secured a job with Weyerhaeuser Lumber Company they moved to Oregon.
Their first daughter, Cindy Huffman, was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon in 1958. Two years later, Hoyt was transferred to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where their second daughter, Brenda Lynn Huffman, was born in 1960.
After two years in Ohio, Weyerhaeuser transferred them to Framingham, Massachusetts, where they resided for forty-one years. They moved to Sanger, Texas in 2001. Following Hoyt’s death in 2015, Shirley moved to Longmont.
They were blessed with three grandchildren: J. Curtis Poor (born 11/23/88), Jacob Wayne Busse (born 12/30/99) and Brianna Martina Busse (born 1/30/01). Shirley welcomed great grandson Jett Edmund Poor on 10/31/2018.
Shirley made countless friends wherever she lived. She loved company, playing games, eating sweets, reading Christian fiction, and watching Hallmark movies. She was fondly known as The Cat Lady. Shirley will always be remembered for saying, “I don’t have an ache or pain in my body.” Now that she’s with her Lord, it’s finally true. She will be sorely missed by all her family and friends.
A celebration of life for Shirley will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Erie Bible Baptist Church, 5050 NE County Line Rd 1, Erie, Colorado 80516.
