Last Friday afternoon, August 3, 2018, Dr. Steve Henderson passed away in his home on McIntosh Lake, he was 75. This was not his first home on the lake, he initially lived on Lakeview Circle when he first arrived in town in August of 1976. He had a wife, Karen, and two kids, Scott and Jack, and another son on the way, Conn. This was where his 42 years in Longmont began. He then began to impact the city of Longmont in a myriad of ways. His occupation was that of Urologist, a career he chose because he had a passion for medicine and helping people. He eventually joined the Longmont Clinic and he practiced medicine in Longmont for 32 years. He retired with distinction but continued volunteering his time and energy to what he deemed worthy causes in the community. He was active in the Boy Scouts with his sons, he served on the board of the Rocky Mountain Stone Center, he served on the board at the Longmont Clinic and was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ. He also devoted great time and energy to the OUR center, an organization whose mission Steve felt was important not just for the city but for the clients the center is able to impact. He was respected and loved greatly not just for what he gave but for the fact that he gave cheerfully. He was also an avid golfer and could often be found at a city course or doing his best at Fox Hill County Club. Throughout all of his life he was a valued friend to many, and the treasured scion of the Henderson family who survive him. He was preceded in death by his son Jack and father Robert. He leaves behind his wife Karen of 50 years, his son Conn and granddaughter Azalea of Lafayette, his son Scott and daughter in law Karrie of Dallas, mother Annabelle, his brother Mark and wife Patty, and brother Todd all of Houston. He is also survived by a number of dear friends, colleagues and others throughout Colorado and beyond. The family requests that any donations be directed to the OUR center. You could also go take a walk around McIntosh Lake, and reflect on Steve. Just take a look at the view and maybe you can feel a bit of what Steve felt back in August of 1976, This is a beautiful place and I want to have an amazing life that changes lives, starting right here, and he did. Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the United Church of Christ Longmont. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
