

He was born on March 23, 1945 in Washington, DC to Nils Anderson Junior and Jean Ferris Anderson. He grew up in Southport, CT with his three brothers, enjoying life along the Connecticut shoreline.
In his early years, he was educated at Fessenden school in Newton, MA, followed by Sterling College in Sterling, VT. He then voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1968. After serving in the army in Germany and Vietnam, he moved to Tucson, AZ where he attended the University of Arizona.
On July 17, 1971, he married Elaine Stockwell Sisbower in Greens Farms, Connecticut. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Boulder, Colorado, where they made their first home together. Stephens worked for the US Forest Service with the Beetle Project in Boulder. He then obtained his insurance broker’s license and worked in Denver.
Later, in 1973, the couple decided to make their permanent home in Longmont, where they started their family. Stephens was a devoted and romantic husband of 53 years, and a loving and generous father of two, and grandfather of five. He was a hard worker who served his community by beautifying and maintaining Longmont’s parks and greenways with the Longmont Parks and Recreation Department from 1977-2000.
Stephens loved Jesus and was an active member at Loveland Evangelical Covenant Church where he faithfully served as an usher for many years. He also was an active volunteer in Larimer County, where he joyfully worked with SAINT- Seniors Assistance In Transportation, and won several awards for his loyal service. He then went on to volunteer with Pathways Hospice.
He thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful Colorado outdoors and mountains. He was a master gardener who loved traveling, spending time with his family, Fourth of July celebrations, tasty desserts, studying history and geography, and listening to 50s rock and classical music.
He will forever be loved and embraced by his family as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He is remembered by his family as respectful, loving, funny, playful, humble, goofy, generous, cheeky, enjoyer-of-life-and-sweets, coffee-runner, soldier, child of God, forest green, story-teller, gregarious, rock, salt-of-the-earth, caretaker, cheerleader, advocate, overcomer, compassionate, deep, kind, gentle, always clean, kind soul, hilarious, card-player, reserved, loyal, forgiving, and handsome.
Stephens is survived by his wife Elaine Sisbower Anderson, his two daughters: Kate Anderson Newman (David), and Kimberly Anderson Weynen (Angelo), and 5 beautiful grandchildren: Annaliese (Anton), Benjamin, Elijah, Jazmine, and Elianna as well as his brothers: Derby F. Anderson and Ward R. Anderson (Kathy). Preceded in death by his parents, Nils Anderson Junior and Jean Ferris Anderson, and his brother Nils Anderson III.
A memorial service will be held April 30, 11am, at Lifespring Church 743 S Dotsero Dr. Loveland, CO. (Memorial contributions may be sent to Samaritan's Purse.)
