

Steve John Melick, died on May 4, 2008 at his Westminster home surrounded by his family. He was born February 2, 1933 in Dacono, Colorado, to John ""Jack"" Melick and Bluebell (Burns) Melick. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1951, and on February 13, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Janet J. Brown, of Erie.In 1991, Steve retired from Rocky Flats as a warehouse manager after 39 years of service. As an active member of his community, Mr. Melick had served as an Erie Town Deputy, on the Erie Volunteer Fire Department, Erie Water and Sanitation Board, Erie Town Council, and on the Saint Scholastica Church Council.Steve and Janet moved to Westminster in 1977. They were members of St. Mark Catholic Church. He was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos, and held season tickets from the team's beginnings in 1960. Most of all, Steve was a loving family man who enjoyed cheering for his grandchildren in their various sports and activities.Along with his wife of 55 years, Mr. Melick is survived by his son, Michael S. Melick (wife, Judy), of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Patricia K. Fearn (husband, Peter), of Bailey, Colorado; grandchildren, Sean Melick, Katie Melick, Adam Fearn (wife, Melissa), and Erin Fearn, great granddaughters, Ayden and Avery Fearn. He is survived further by brothers, Earl, Paul, George, and Ricky Melick; sisters, Evelyn Rocarek, Theresa Schreiber, and their families. Preceding Steve in death were his parents, Jack Melick and Bluebell Butler, and a brother, Barney Melick.Viewings will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Howe Mortuary, Longmont, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and at St. Mark Catholic Church in Westminster, from 5:30 p.m. until the Rosary service at 6:30 p.m.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 8 at St. Mark Catholic Church with The Reverend Kenneth Koehler as Celebrant. A private family inurnment service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Erie.Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Hospice Foundation, 7995 E.
