All you said brings tears to my eyes..you said SO MANY WONDERFUL  DESCRIPTIVE, LOVING, CARING things about this obviously very KIND AMAZING SOUL...I used to watch a fellow walk into the gas station on Francis Street, each step an effort...my heart felt heavy for how he struggled to walk in and out of that store to get his scratch tickets, then climb into his vehicle...I did not know him personally, but my boyfriend did...as I just learned...it's a small world..and all you said can be applied to many LOVED ONES WE HAVE ALSO LOST THIS YEAR....THANK YOU FOR EXPRESSING YOUR LOVE FOR TOM....BEYOND BEAUTIFUL...GOD BLESS YOU, TOM, HIS FAMILY......Someday we will all be together again...and this will be far behind us...AMEN

Tom was a fighter, as all we Lynch family are. He suffered for a very long time. He and my husband John had some wonderful conversations.  Was hoping to see him this summer. He deserves to be with the rest of our family United in Heaven. Love ,Nancy.

I remember the big smile he seemed to have for everyone. I met Tom back in the late 70's, he was married to my dear friends' sister. Wow...we had fun and crazy times :heart: I know he would agree that his daughter Angel, was the best part of his life! Fly high Tom....thanks for the memories....see ya on the other side!! :heart:

I'm so sorry to hear of Tom's passing.  He's one of the best men I've ever known.  I'll always remember his warm heart, wonderful sense of humor and his beautiful smile.  Not to mention his positive attitude.  He was always an inspiration to me.  Rest in Peace my dear friend. Breathe... Just breathe... 

Is there anything more simple...? 

Anything more immediate...? 

Anything more present...? 

Anything more complex... 

Try to imagine for a moment that this next breath is the only one you will ever take... not the last... not the first... the only... how much do you remember about that one breath... the sound... the feel... is there ever enough presence to contain the whole of that moment? 

At 4:22 AM I watched The last breath of my friend Thomas Kent Lynch. I remember every detail of that final breath more vividly than any breath that I have ever taken of my own.  It is a strange thing watching a final breath. Watching as a person you love, transforms in a moment, to a vessel that had carried the person you love. He is still present... still available... just no longer within the form we knew him as. 

I did not know Tom well when I started this journey. He was diagnosed with a terminal illness long before I met him. when I met him he could hardly walk and his speech was difficult to understand. Progressive MS is a hard disease to watch as it overtakes a person. I never once thought he would become such an important person to me, much less a friend. In fact I didn't really get to know him much until he was well into the process of dying. These last few months have been in hospice care. I feel honored that I was allowed to have this window into his soul. 

But a eulogy is about how a person lived, not how they died.  These last few months I have spent nearly every day with this wonderful man, and more so with the people he loved. Everyone that knew him had a genuine care for him. from his closest loved ones, to the other patients that would spend their cigarette breaks with him. his spirit shone through even when his body would not. We quickly learned that he and I share a love for sarcasm and humor, and we both got joy from watching as those around us groaned at our slightly off kilter interpretation of the situation. though his hands had long since failed him, he was a musician, a guitarist, when we'd go driving we would listen to the beatles or Tom petty or Zeplin and his fingers would still try and play along. We talked about old cars and the navy, but most of all about the people he cared about. His father, his mother, his daughter, his  brothers, his sister, his grandchildren, his friends. I learned about his life through the stories that Angel would tell, and the way with which everyone wanted him near. 

Tom has taught me so much about both life and death. Knowing from the first moment that you start spending time with someone that that moment could be your last, makes every breath that much more special, or maybe just that much more present. 

This last year and a half I have lost so many people. Each one has taught me a little more in their passing. I am so thankful for Tom and Angel for inviting me to share in this incredible journey. they did not have to. They have trusted me with the memories of his last few months and his last breath. trusted me with being there for their last moments together. 

My heart goes out to all the people that knew him far better than I. To everyone, too many to name, that his passing will touch. we all wanted more time with him, and will treasure the time that we did. 

Rest peacefully my dear friend.
