

Thomas C. Slauson of Lyons, Colorado died Thursday, January 29, at the Alta Vita Memory Care facility in Longmont. He was 88.Born April 4, 1926, in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of Proctor Cr l Slauson and Mary Ann Carey Slauson. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1944. After high school he entered the U.S. Navy in the summer of 1944 and was stationed in San Diego as an electrical technician on naval aircraft. He was released from active duty in 1946 and graduated from Auburn University in 1949 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was later reactivated and served as a radar technician on board the aircraft carrier USS Kula Gulf during the Korean War. He joined IBM as an electrical engineer in 1953, where he worked for 35 years.He married Carolyn Monr Slauson on Jan. 14, 1953 in Birmingham. During their married life they lived in Birmingham, Huntsville, Al, Memphis, Tn, Tampa, Fl, and Estes Park, Colorado. They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in the bishopric and high council. He enjoyed sailing, woodworking, music, remote control airplanes, and furniture-making. He built one cabin, one house, a houseful of furniture, and several sailboats, including a large ocean-going yacht. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Carol Ann in 1957, by both parents and his brother Charles, and by his wife Carolyn in 1998. He is survived by his sister Mary Frances Westwater, and by three sons, David Slauson and his wife Kathy, of Lyons, Co, Steve Slauson and his wife Susan, of Memphis, Tn, and John Slauson and his wife Kris of Sandy, Utah; and by 13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham at 2pm on Saturday, February 7th.
