Tomas Alvarez was born March 7, 1937 to Lorenzo and Juanita Alvarez in Gilcrest Colorado. Known to his siblings, numerous nieces and nephews as “Tom Terrific," who lived a long blessed & wonderful life.
After graduating from Gilcrest High school, he enlisted in the Army for the next endeavor of his life. This took him to Fort Benning Georgia where he spent the next 5 years as a radar repairman/electronics technician. During his tenure as a soldier Tom earned the Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter(carbine) and Marksman(M-1 rifle) badges.
After being honorably discharged from the military , Tom was able to apply his military training, to the civilian world, and had a successful career at Ball Aerospace, in Boulder Colorado. Here he used his expertise on various military and aerospace projects as a “process engineer” for three decades.
The best part of Tom's story is when he met the love of his life Virginia, aka “the boss". They shared over 58 beautiful years together, bringing into this world a daughter and son in which he provided a storybook life.
Tom had a love of sports, but baseball was his passion. His love of the game would have him playing in the metro area Chicano leagues and eventually lead him to Denver to play in the semi- pro leagues. After hanging up his glove and cleats he coached the game he loved for 20 years with the Longmont Junior League Baseball program. He also sat on their board of directors for many years.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Juanita Alvarez, as well as his siblings Severance, Rebecca, Lawrence, and Albert. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia; his daughter, Bernadette and her husband Paul; and his son, Carlos, and his wife Wendy, along with their daughters, Heather, Amanda, and Bailey.
