Walter Mendenhall, 88, of Longmont passed away June 1, 2013 at his residence. He was born on June 28, 1924 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Vesta and Ida (Ball) Mendenhall.Walter served in the US Army from 1942 until 1950; he was a highly decorated veteran.He married Flora Jennings on November 19, 1960, they moved to Boulder, CO in 1977 and then to Longmont in 2009.Walter was a volunteer for the government. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed airplanes and was a pilot.He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Flora in 2010.Walter is survived by his son Gardner Mendenhall and his wife Nicole, two grandchildren Savannah and Madison Mendenhall.Graveside service will be at 12:15 PM Friday June 14, 2013 at Ft Logan National Cemetery staging area C in Denver. Military Honors will be rendered by the US Army and American Legion Post 32 of Longmont.
