
Wayne M. Carr of Dacono died November 3, 2011 at his home. He was 91 years old.Wayne was born on August 8, 1920 in Madison, South Dakota, the son of Wayne, Sr. and Marie (Roth) Carr. Wayne married Wilma N. Olesen on September 19, 1942 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from June 10, 1942 until his discharge as a Technical Sergeant on October 16, 1945. Wayne was stationed in England and France as a Crew Chief for C-47 aircraft. Following his discharge, Wayne farmed in South Dakota. Wayne and his brother formed Carr Brothers Construction and they built homes in Edgemont, South Dakota and for the U.S. Army in Igloo, South Dakota. Wayne and Wilma moved to Longmont in 1957 from Edgemont. Wayne continued to build homes in Longmont and Broomfield; those homes were some of the original construction when Broomfield started to grow. Wayne and Wilma then moved to Dacono in 1971. He worked at Rocky Flats as a chemical operator from 1958 until his retirement in 1983. While at Rocky Flats, Wayne worked at Bob's Motors and Bob's Cycle Center in Longmont as a mechanic, new bike assembler and jack of all trades.He was a member of Rinn United Methodist Church where he served as a project manager for the recent expansion of the church. He was a 40-year member of John Harold Buckley Post 32, American Legion in Longmont, a life member of the Masonic Lodge in South Dakota and Past President of the Tri-Town Lions Club, Wayne was active with the Tri-Town Senior Center, Dacono government, serving on the committee when Home Rule was established, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. .Wayne enjoyed woodworking, particularly making clocks, quilt racks and many other items; building and operating N-Gauge train sets and layouts; going to the mountains; camping; fishing and riding motorcycles to Beaver Reservoir.He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cheryl Gittlein; two grandchildren, Jeff Carr and Ken Carr; a brother, Jim and three sisters, Liz, Dorothy, and Betty.Wayne is survived by his wife Wilma of Dacono; four children, Marna Nicholson (J.C.) of Firestone, Mike Carr (Brenda) of Longmont, LouAnn Hodge (Jim) of Longmont and Candy Kemp (Doug) of Pharr, Texas; a brother, Eddy Bill Carr of Agar, South Dakota; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.A visitation will be held from 9:30 “ 10:30AM on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Rinn United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Rinn United Methodist Church, 3783 Bella Rosa Parkway (formerly Weld County Road 20) in Frederick. Interment at Foothills Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure or Rinn United Methodist Church and mailed to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
