
Wayne Werner, The Mayor of Lyons, died November 8, 2011 from cardiac arrest at Longmont United Hospital. He was 77 years old.Wayne was born on July 4, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Orville and Neva (Scott) Werner. Wayne resided in the Chicago area and honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959. He married Shirley Spiegl on November 30, 1957 in Chicago. Wayne was an Electronic Technician for Teletype Corp for 29 years. While in Illinois, Wayne was also a square dancer and square dance coordinator for 20 years. They moved to Lyons in 1990 from Libertyville, Illinois.After moving to Lyons, Wayne built their home. When their home was completed, Wayne went to town to find something to do. He volunteered at the Lyons Visitor Center, his church and any other organization that could benefit from his time and talents. He was active with the Lyons Lions Club, the Lyons Golden Gang and the Lyons Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman in Illinois and bowler in Colorado.He was preceded in death by his parents.Wayne is survived by his wife, Shirley Werner of Lyons; his son, Scott Werner (Margaret) of Libertyville, IL; his daughter, Kathleen Wilk (Thomas) of Hampshire, IL; his grandchildren, Brandon Wilk (fiancée Melissa Diederichs), Justin Wilk, Cameron Wilk, Grace Werner and Kate Werner. A memorial service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Messiah Lutheran Church. Cremation is entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or the Lyons Golden Gang and mailed to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
