Mr. Dimond was preceded in death by his father, Barnett Dimond and mother, Lenore Marie (Hebal) Dimond. He is survived by his significant other of 22 years, Julie Gapter of Lafayette, Colorado. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Dimond Murphy of Louisville, Colorado and Jan Dimond of Jacksonville, Florida. He is survived by his niece, Ann Murphy Rumsey of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and two nephews, Michael Murphy of Chicago, Illinois and Thomas Murphy of Westminster, Colorado.
Bill was born May 27, 1960, in Boulder, Colorado. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1978. He retired from City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks in 2009. Bill was fascinated by aviation (following in his father Barnett’s footsteps) and earned his private pilot’s license in his 20s. He enjoyed owning and flying a Maule (short takeoff and landing) plane in the 1990s. Bill continued his pursuit of flying, receiving both his commercial pilot and float plane certifications.
More recently, he became interested in flying radio-controlled model airplanes and was a member of the Aircraft Modelers Association (AMA) and the Longmont Aircraft Modelers Association (LAMA) in Dacono. He served as Field Director of the Dacono Field for LAMA the past four years.
Bill loved being outdoors and enjoyed birding and watching wildlife. His Field Trial Springer Spaniels, Bella and Tally Ho, were very dear to him and he spent countless hours training and hunting with them. Bill was also an accomplished musician, playing the trombone all through high school in Fairview’s Jazz Ensemble and the marching and concert bands. He had recently begun teaching himself to play the guitar.
Bill will be dearly missed.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Longmont Aircraft Modelers Association. Cremation services entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Fond memories and expressions are welcome at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com.
