He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard and retired as a drive and mechanic with Clark Trucking. He was involved in the Boy Scout Troop #377.
He was preceded in rest by his father, Charles Willis Johnston, his mother, Edith Roxie Coogle and stepfather, Michael Coogle.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his two sons, Richard Johnston (Vicki) and Chuck Johnston (Patches); a daughter, Janice Martin (Jim); seven grandchildren, Chris, Tommy, Melody, Jay, Brittany, Courtney, and Brian; six great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Edna Williams.
His family will be having a memorial visitation at the Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, on Tuesday from 6pm until 8pm. His remains were donated.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Boy Scouts of America Troop # 377.
