Clarence Newton Jr. (“Junior”), 98, of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, December 17th at Norton Audubon Hospital after a brief illness. Junior lived a long, wonderfully full life. He was a blessing to so many who had the privilege to know him, a joy to be around, and seemingly always had a warm smile on his face. He was a Christian, a member of Harvest Baptist Church, so excited to be immersed in baptism on April 7, 2024, four days prior to his 97th birthday.
Junior is survived by his wife of 7 years, Thelma (Humston), as well as Belinda Gardner Randall, Lynette Angell, Lisa Angell, and Jonathan Randall, plus numerous wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Katie (Young).
Junior was born on April 11, 1927, in Grayson County, KY, and graduated from Dupont Manual Training High School in 1945, graduating early to serve with honor in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and the Korean War. He retired as a tobacco salesman from RJ Reynolds in 1982. He also worked at Katie’s Launderette, doing whatever he was told to do, until it was sold in 1981. After their retirement, Junior and Katie enjoyed square dancing and travels with the Conestoga Camping Club.
Junior’s celebration of life will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 22, at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Evergreen Mausoleum.
