He joined the Army in 1945. He is a World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veteran, and retired after 21 years of service as a Sergeant First Class. Henry then went on to selling insurance with Equitable Insurance and retired after becoming a Million Dollar Sales Earner. He also served 18 years as a supervisor with the Housing Authority of Louisville.
On April 13, 1960 Henry married the lovely Hottie Gray Treadwell. From this union four children were born; Jackie, Veronica, Christal, and Sabrina. He was a faithful member of Meadowlawn Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Brotherhood. He was also a Mason. Henry was a straight shooter, had an infectious personality, and never met a stranger. He was the patriarch of his family, a mentor to many, a great husband, father, and man of God.
Henry was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and had a passion for fishing and gardening. He was always sharing the blessings of his garden with family, friends, church members, and neighbors. His advice and leadership would always leave others empowered and encouraged. He was a praying man who was on the Battlefield for the Lord.
Our Heavenly Father called him home July 19, 2018 but Henry will always be remembered by his wife Hottie Bouknight, daughters Jackie, Veronica, Christal and Sabrina (Ishmael) Farris; (5) Grandchildren Terrance (Tameacca) Harris; Gerald (Ebony) Fleming, Octavia, Gabriella, and Giovanna Farris, (3) Great-grandchildren Terrance “Little T” and Tatiyana “Tati” Harris and Olivia Fleming. He also leaves a host of family and friends.
