

James Thomas (Tom) Jewell, age 90, Valley Station, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in the care of Robley Rex VA Medical Center, on Tuesday October 14, 2025, after fighting cancer for several years. He was born in Hart County, Kentucky to Hall Jewell and Susie Atwell, whom he joins in Glory. He is also predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara Handy Jewell (married 1953); daughter, Monica Jewell Jodoin, brother, Steve Jewell and great granddaughter Bryn Nelson.
Tom served in the US Army in Germany during the Berlin Crisis (1958-59), then returned to the US and continued to serve in US Army Reserves into the mid-1960s, where he made lifelong buddies. He even met Elvis, which he loved telling stories about!
He was a Skilled Steel Rule Die Maker in the packaging industry for almost 50 years. For almost 20 years he owned and operated his own business, Diepack and TriBag, Inc. respectively.
He served on the Advisory Board, as a volunteer, beginning in 1998 with Jefferson County Police Department, then Louisville Metro Police Department. In Mar 2011 he was awarded the Silver Volunteer award for the many hours he served. In Dec 2019 he retired as Treasurer of the organization.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Jewell (Frank Binford), Louisville; grandchildren, Travis Jewell (Misty), Riley, Michagan, Amanda “Mandy” Kays, Louisville, Susanne Binford (John-Michael Albrecht), Louisville and Brooke Link (Johnny), Jeffersonville, Indiana; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patsy Morrison, Pilot Mountain, NC; companion/caregiver, Sue Gunter as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A very special thank you to each and every one at the VA for the years of excellent care they provided. He would have never achieved his 90th birthday without them and that was one of his greatest joys.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday October 17, 2025, at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Hwy with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West; with visitation from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday October 16, 2025 and 11 a.m. – noon on Friday.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions, in his memory, to Ormsby Heights Baptist Church, 2120 Lower Hunters Trace, Louisville, KY 40216, his home church for over 50 years.
