

Karen Metcalf Aiple, 69 of Louisville, KY passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 after losing her brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by family in their home at the time of her passing. Karen had a smile that could light up a room, and a warm, loving personality which left an impression on all who met her. She will be greatly missed by all whom had the pleasure of knowing her.
Karen retired from the University of Louisville in 2013, after nearly 30 years of service. She was also a member of St. Rita Catholic parish for over 50 years, and graduated from Southern High School with the class of 1966. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt who cherished her family and friends beyond measure. A fan of good music, great friends, and the Louisville Cardinals, Karen will be genuinely missed.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Paul “Moose” Metcalf and Helen “Peggy” (Coffey) Metcalf; Fiancé, Edward J. Kaiser; and Brother-in-law, Robert E. Ziegenbein.
Left to cherish Karen’s memory is her loving daughter, Jessica (Aiple) Wells and son-in-law, Philip “Greg” Wells of Louisville; her previous husband, Charles D. Aiple and wife Susan E. of Louisville. She also leaves behind her siblings Gary Paul Metcalf and wife Becky of Fountain Inn, SC, Barry K. Metcalf and wife Heidi, of Orlando, FL, Laura Lee Metcalf of Louisville; sisters-in-law Joy Ziegenbein of Rhinelander, WI, Kate Kaiser of Milwaukee, WI, brother-in-law John B. Kaiser of Louisville; 4 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, a special family-extension grandson in China, 4 nieces and 4 nephews, 6 great nieces and 4 great nephews.
A casual memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4th at 6pm in the Casper Center of St. Rita Catholic Church, 8709 Preston Hwy, Louisville. Friends are invited to join others for a simple gathering at Smyrna Inn, on Smyrna Pkwy, after the memorial concludes at 9pm. Karen said that friends need not shed tears, but come and celebrate the happy memories of her life. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Southern High School Scholarship Fund.
