Our beautiful beloved Mother, Margaret Frances Morris, age 94, passed away at her home in Lake Worth Beach, Florida on Thursday, April 17, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances Vormbrock; husband, William Harold Morris; son, Michael Morris; brothers, Sonny and Larry Vormback; and sisters, Sylvia Rusch and Julia Barnett.
She is survived by her children, Karen Maghoul (Mike), Joseph Morris, John Morris (Lil), and daughter in law, Melinda Morris; SIx grandchildren, Nicholas Maghoul, William Harold Morris II (Erica), Blake Morris (Abby), Katie Morris (James), Maggie Morris (Scott) and Ryan Overstreet (Shelly); Seven great grandchildren, Bennett, Colby, Andrew, Lucy, Ethan, Zoe, and Gannon; Siblings, Mary Elizabeth Cutsinger, Norma Keenan, Steve Vormback and Francie Kamer.
Margie was the oldest of nine children. She dropped out of Presentation High School after her sophomore year to work and help support her family.
She married William Harold Morris in 1952 and together they had 4 children. She graduated from Ahrens night school in 1963 while raising her young family.
Margie Graduated from General Hospital School of Radiology Technicians in 1967. She was so nice to her fellow students who were from distant places. She would bring them home with her on weekends. Those young women LOVED her!
After retiring from X-ray technology, she was an active member of St Paul’s Church. She sang in the choir and served as president of the Alter Society. She made many wonderful friends wherever she was and whatever she did.
After her husband died, she attended cosmetology school.
She attended a conference in Washington DC in 1986, and met some fellow cosmetologists who invited her to visit them in West Palm Beach. She called her daughter Karen and said, “I’m moving here”. She never looked back.
She joined and bowling league, line danced and was a COP (citizen on patrol). She wore a cop uniform and cruised the Poinciana community in a Sheriff’s car.
She worked retail at Lord and Taylor and Bloomingdale’s to get the employee discount. She knew where to scoped out the bargain areas. Karen learned that Kroger had a produce $1.00 bin from her!
She gave out samples at Publix Supermarkets. Everyone was amazed at her strength, setting up the table herself.
She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. The demands were great, going out to assist fire and rescue at all hours day and night.
She volunteered to go to NYC after the 9-11 attack. Her tasks were physically very demanding for her, requiring a lot of heaving lifting of cases of water bottles. But she did not complain.
Mimi was a Civil Air Patrol volunteer, doing air searches and assisting in cadet training.
She learned to play bridge with her sister Judy and played for over 70 years. She played twice and week while in Florida. Everyone wanted to be her partner. She made a grand slam in one of her final bridge games before she passed and was thrilled that she and her partner came in 1st place. Mimi was a social butterfly who had a gift of gab and holding court. While raising her children, she always welcomed our friends into their home.
This is a poem by Patrick O’Reilly that portrays our mom:
God made a wonderful Mother
A mother who never grows old
He made her smile of the sunshine
And He moulded her heart of pure gold
