Maria was born on May 22, 1954, in Owensboro, Daviess County, Kentucky. She was a woman of faith. In her early years she was a faithful attendee of Valley Church of the Nazarene. Later in life she attended Valley View Baptist Church. She faithfully read and studied her Bible every day and deeply loved her family and friends.
Maria had a lifelong calling for caring for children. She worked in childcare for many years, including as a daycare worker at Building Blocks Inc. (1987–1994), with children at the YMCA (1994–1997), and as the director at First Cumberland Child Development Center (1998–2003). She later joined Jefferson County Public Schools, working at Engelhard Elementary as a teacher’s aide with kindergarten and first-grade students (2004–2009). After retiring, Maria continued her passion for caring for children in her home. She was also known for her love of keeping a spotless home something she was “notorious” for among family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Stephen W. Majors; her stillborn son, Joseph Thomas Majors; her parents, Joseph W. Stallings Sr. and Mary L. Stallings (Smith); and her siblings Joseph W. Stallings Jr., Linda F. McMahon, Randall R. Stallings, David A. Stallings, and Saundra K. Stallings.
Maria is survived by her children, S. Scott Majors (Heather N.) and Megan S. Majors; her sister, Judi Whitney; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In honor of Maria’s loving and giving spirit, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
