

Mary retired from National City Bank, and was members of; Sunnyside Baptist church and the order of Eastern Star Fairdale Chapter #153 and a KY Colonel. Mary received the country’s highest honor, the “Presidential Call to Service Award” for her volunteer work at Nichols Elementary, West Point Independent School and Blue Lick Middle School. She received the Kentucky’s Governor 1st lady award for her volunteer service of 4,500 hours. In 2012 Bullitt County Judge Executive proclaimed March 25th as Mary Ruth Hawkins Day in Bullitt Co. Ky. In honor of her volunteer service with the Bullitt County Public Schools. Mary has also toured all 50 states, all of Europe, the Holy land, China, Bahamas and Cuba.
Mary was met at the gates of heaven by her husband Clydes F Hawkins with 62 years of marriage, her parents, Eugene and Vida Story, brothers Samuel and Frank Story.
Mary has left behind to cherish her memory; her two sons, Fielden and Meldon Hawkins, her daughter Deborah (Tony) Thornton, five grandchildren Matthew (Melinda) Thornton, Timmy Thompson, Greta (Jake) Sohl, Brock (Bethany) Hawkins and Cory Hawkins, five great-grandchildren; Eli Thornton Kaitlyn Sohl, Jacob Sohl, Ethan Hawkins and Ella Grace Hawkins also a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Mary’s celebration of life service will be held at her church Sunny Side Baptist church 2727 Knob Creek Road Shepherdsville KY, 40165, Saturday July 17,2021 at 2:00 P.M. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 Thursday and Friday from 2 to 8 at Advantage Funeral Home Hardy chapel 10907 Dixie Hwy.
