Maylyn Carby, 54, of Louisville, died unexpectedly Monday, March 24, 2025, in her home. She was born in Louisville where she lived her entire life, the daughter of the late Fred William and Claudia Lynne Neale Carby.
From the moment she entered the world until the time she transitioned to her heavenly home, Maylyn faced challenge upon challenge. Starting out life as a preemie, going through childhood wearing coke-bottle-lens-glasses, to adulthood where she struggled with various health issues, she was a survivor time and time again.
Her favorite pastime was waking up at the beach and watching the waves, being sure to catch the sunset at the end of a glorious day spent with family and friends. She had a stopwatch counting down her days to retirement and had hopes of living out her days watching the sun meet the horizon.
Maylyn was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and was a firm believer she would meet her Savior when her time on earth was done. Her favorite Disney Princess was Cinderella; she loved penguins; and purple was by far her favorite color.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her grandparents, Noel & May Coffey, John & Martyne Carby, and Lavenna Harrison Neale; and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include: her siblings, Walter Thomas Patrick & Lisa Carby, Tiffany & Eric Sokolowski; daughter, Tara (Josh) Druin; aunt and uncle, Myra & Ken Lochner; aunt, Vennie Constant; cousins, Melissa Majors, Shawn Coffey, Jessica Constant; lifelong best friends, Jacki & Tommy Huelsman; nieces and nephews, Tyler, Taylor and Tori Carby, Morgan, Jordan (Tyler) and Erin Donahue; godsons, Jonathon (Shelby), Jacob (Sara), Joseph (Maggie) Huelsman; and many other friends and family. Maylyn played a special role as “Mino” to Sara and “Mimi” to Willow, DJ, Peyton, Ryleigh and Wyatt.
A visitation will take place Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. in Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services – Hardy Chapel, 10907 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40272. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Church of the Nazarene, 3503 Blanton Ln, Louisville, KY 40214.
Maylyn’s wishes were to be cremated and interred at the burial plot of her parents in Bethany Cemetery. A private burial will be planned for a later date. Honorary pallbearers are “The Crazy Eights” and “The Work Buds.”
You can show your love for Maylyn by wearing purple in her memory. In lieu of flowers, do something kind for someone. Pay it forward. Maylyn spent her life making sure people felt loved and appreciated.
