

Robert (Bobby), son of Rev. Thomas Walter LAMKIN and Verna Ethel Board LAMKIN, was born December 22nd, 1936, in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. He is predeceased by both parents and his sister, Lois (Lamkin) PINGUELY. He lived with the BEELERS (John, Martha and daughter Corine) as his foster family after the loss of his father at the age of seven. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Martha Louise (Penick) LAMKIN, his three daughters, Lisa Lamkin CASSELL (Thomas), Laura Lamkin POLSON (James -widowed), and Robin Lamkin WYATT (Dean), nine grandchildren - Brooke Polson MORGAN (Paul), England; Devin Thomas CASSELL (Megan), Chattanooga, Tennessee; Morgan Elizabeth POLSON, Louisville; Joshua Dane POLSON (Willow), Louisville; Daniel Robert CASSELL (Cortney), Tennessee; Olivia Kathryn CASSELL, Louisville; Leah Tarter PEREZ (Marcos), Kentucky; Rachel Jade LAMKIN, Louisville; Isabella Starr EVANS, Louisville; and six great-grandchildren, Elijah James GUIN, Louisville, Lucien Henry MORGAN, England; Judah Dane TARTER, Ezra Mason PEREZ, John Paul PEREZ, and Asher PEREZ, of Kentucky.
Robert graduated from Valley High School in 1955, and married Martha Louise PENICK the same year. He played football for 4 years and was the co-captain of the team with Paul Biblehauser in 1955. Martha was the Homecoming Queen the same year. He also was a lifeguard at Valley’s pool. He was in the Kentucky National Guard for 20 years and earned the rank of Lieutenant after attending Officer Candidate School in Oklahoma in 1958.
Robert earned a Master’s Degree in Higher Mathematics and a Teaching Certificate from the University of Louisville and taught Advanced Math and Physics at Pleasure Ridge Park High School for 31 years. He was Chairman of the Math Department, and coached Track and Field for several years. He drove a Greyhound bus during the summers between school years. He was also a talented carpenter, a painter for the Jefferson County Public Schools after retiring from teaching, and a farmer for his entire life. He loved golf and frequently played with his friend Harold Howard.
Robert served as Chairman of the Board as well as a Treasurer for Valley Christian Church in Valley Station, Kentucky before it was closed, and then was a faithful member of Valley View Church, Louisville, for many years, where he served as Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School teacher. For the remainder of his life, he and Martha have been members of Cornerstone Community Church.
Funeral services for Robert Lamkin will be at Advantage Hardy’s Funeral Home at 10907 Dixie Highway in Valley Station (Louisville), Kentucky 40272. Visitation will be Thursday, June 19th from 4 pm until 8 pm for those unable to attend on Friday. On Friday, June 20th 2025 visitation will be from 11am to 1pm. There will be a Celebration of Robert’s Life at 1pm. Graveside service will be in the Bethany Cemetery, adjoining the funeral home immediately following. Officiating will be Matt Morris, minister of Cornerstone Community Church.
