Born into our family August 4, 1949
Went home to Jesus November 4, 2023
The 74 years on this earth were too short by our calendar, yet we trust the perfect timing of our Heavenly Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Rockie was preceded in death by her only son Troy Edward Hartman, her parents Sarah E. Pryor (Reader) and Richard T. Pryor Sr., a sister Kathryn Coleen Pryor and brother Richard T. Pryor Jr. She is survived by her only grandson, Maxton Troy Hartman, her steadfast and loyal partner James Emmitt, his son and daughter, Joe Emmitt and Nicki Berding, Rockie’s siblings Sharon Pryor Plummer, Wenda Sue McMillan (Larry), David Pryor (JoAnn), Eric Pryor (Jackie), sister-in-law Becky Hunt Pryor and an extended family of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rockie said yes to the call of Jesus about the age of 11 and was baptized at South Jefferson Baptist Church where she had spent Sunday mornings and evenings as well as Wednesday nights since birth. Her trust in Jesus was evident throughout her life; in her devotion to family and friends; in the way she navigated the death of her only son and forgave the other motorist face to face, telling her sister that she knew when Troy was born God would only let her have him for a short time; in the love and commitment she poured into caring for her late mom; and in her perseverance through all the physical challenges she encountered through the years. During her final years, health permitting, she became part of the family of South Jefferson Christian Church and even helped cut the grass last summer (Pastor Brett has a funny story about that).
Rockie liked simple things…yard sales, puzzles, spending time with friends and family, the road trips with Troy when they had very little money, sleeping in the car with just a jar of peanut butter and loaf of bread, long talks with her grandson Max about anything he chose to share. Rockie had her faults and if she thought she was right you may never be able to change her mind. She had a pit-bull determination that her sister says was probably inherited by all but the oldest child (ha ha Rockie…sadly, you cannot dispute this). At the end of the day, Rockie loved life and she loved everyone in her life……even if you thought she didn’t, please know that you were forgiven and loved by her.
Rockie’s funeral will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 11 AM at Advantage Funeral Home Hardy Chapel 10907 Dixie Hwy. Burial will follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West, Visitation will be Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the funeral home from 3-8 PM
