

Carlyle Maupin was born in 1932 to Miller and Tacoma Maupin in Louisville, KY. He always called himself "the middle child", as he was 4 of 7 children. He became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church around 6 years old, when his parents joined the Magazine St SDA church. He has been active ever since, serving in many capacities including Sabbath school teacher and choir member.
He served as local elder for 30 years.
He married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Lawson, in 1951. She was also a church member. Into their union was born 3 children.
The military issued a deferment from service until he completed college.
He was a brilliant man, making straight A's through his academic life, from 1st grade, thru college. After he received his biology degree, he served in the army as a medic/ lab technician at Ft Knox.
Following discharge from military, he became a science teacher at Duvalle Jr hs for 9 years. During that time, he received his Master's Degree in Education.
He then became assistant principal at manly Jr hs and Atherton ha, followed by being principal at Noe middle school.
He was principal at Crosby middle school for 18 years before retiring from Jefferson Co. Public Schools. He then worked part time as a mentor for the University of Louisville, and science teacher at Emma L Minnis Academy.
Carlyle and Audrey traveled extensively all over the world, until she became very ill. He took loving care of her for 3 years, before she passed in 2000.
They considered themselves Rook champions. They were partners for 40 years, and played with family and church members most Saturday nights.
Carlyle was known to have a terrific sense of humor. He joked a lot and was quick witted. We referred to him as the social butterfly of the church.
He was an accomplished artist. His paintings garnished all of the walls in his house. He loved to paint. He was also and excellent gardener. He always had a beautiful yard filled with flowers and trees.
After 7 years of being a widow, he married Violet Skeete from Los Angeles. They were married for 8 years before she succumbed to death. His time after that was filled with “dating” Connie Stafford. They really enjoyed each other's company. She remained with him until he passed.
Carlyle was a very “Young” senior. He still went to the gym 3 times a week, gardened, travelled, drove, until he was diagnosed with stage 4 Cancer in Oct, 2018. The Lord blessed his last 7 months of life. His minimal pain was easily controlled, and he had great spirit of mind throughout his illness. He was rarely sad.
Carlyle was preceded in death by his father and mother, Miller and Tacoma Maupin, his older brother, Millburn Maupin, and his grandson, Alex Emanuel.

His children, Carol Emanuel (Jim Shafer), Carlyle Maupin (Sandy Maupin) and Kevin Maupin (Laura Maupin).
His siblings, Roslyn Cochran, Robert Maupin, Idabeth Jacob, LaVaunt Maupin (Alberta), and Lolita McRoy.
His grandchildren, Karyn Chenevert, Rachel Lyons (George), Lianne Grice (Derick).
8 great grandchildren, many nieces and
Nephews, 2 sister in laws, and loads of other family and friends.
