

Services for Ben J. Weber, 90, of Pollok, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Southside Baptist Church, with Bro. Jeff Robinson and Bro. Buster Grigg officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Weber was born June 30, 1924 in New York, the son of the late Mary (Ulley) and Benjamin John Weber, Sr. He passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in a local hospital.
Mr. Weber was a local businessman who operated the following businesses, Ben Weber’s Insurance Co. and BWCS (Courier’s Service Co). He also managed Lufkin Bowling Lanes and actively participated in many bowling leagues and tournaments. He enjoyed fishing, was a great cook, and a connoisseur of food. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing “42” with his fellow church members. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where he taught the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class. His Church and Sunday School classes were very important to him and they enjoyed annual trips to the Bernard River. Mr. Weber was the manager of the “Dirty Socks”, one of the first softball teams in Angelina County in the early 1950s. He was also involved in youth baseball and was on the board of Angelina Youth Baseball and coached flag football when it first started.
Mr. Weber served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He achieved the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal & Bronze Star Attachment, World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, Expert Badge & Carbine Bar & Rifle Bar and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
Survivors include his wife, Joy Weber of Pollok; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and James Parish of Huntington; daughter, Betsy Dean of Lake Dallas; sons, Benjie Weber of Houston, Alex Weber of Waco, Brenden Havard of Pollok and Gavin Havard of Pollok; stepson, Carl Myers of Austin; stepdaughter, Jessica Myers of Austin; grandchildren, Jamie, Calley, Kelley, Cheri, Carey, Regina, Charla, Jay, Aimee, and Erika; 7 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Sandy Weber of Round Rock; and a number of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Weber was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Griffin; stepfather, Charles Weber; stepson, Charles Myers; brother, George Weber; and the mother of his children, Mildred Weber Carradine.
Pallbearers will be Russ Reeder, Josh Baker, Jay Weber, Seth McNeese, Lucas Watkins and Carter Meyers.
Honorary pallbearers will the members of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class of Southside Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
