

Services for Carl Basey, Jr. 87, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Kyle Dunn and Reverend Charlie Coglan officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Basey was born March 17, 1928 in Shawnee Prairie, Texas, the son of the late Sally (McClure) and Carl Bennie Basey. He passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Basey served in the United States Marines and then again in the United States Air Force. He was a longtime resident of Lufkin. He worked for 20 years at Texas Foundries until he opened his own business in 1971, Basey Pattern Shop. He was a Master Mason, Lodge A.F. & A.M. #669 Lufkin.
He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Lufkin where he served as a Deacon, R. A. Leader, and taught Sunday School to the Youth. For the last five years, he was a member of First Christian Church of Nacogdoches. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Basey and Dovie.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sally Ann and John Swearingen of Nacogdoches; grandson, Basey Swearingen of Morgantown, West Virginia; granddaughter, Dovie Swearingen of Lubbock; sister and brother-in-law, Sherri and David Dunn of Boerne; niece and her husband, Mary Jane and Jim West of Lufkin; niece and her husband, Dolores and L. D. Knox of Freeport; nephew, Chuck St. Clair of Freeport; nephew, Lance St. Clair and wife Martha of Georgetown; nephew, Kyle Dunn and wife Stacy of Waco; nephew, Tyson Dunn of Houston; and a number of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Basey was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Basey; and sister, Nell St. Clair.
Pallbearers will be Jim West, Lance St. Clair, Chuck St. Clair, Tyson Dunn, Tommy Basey, David Root, Chuck French, and James Swearingen.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Kessinger, David Dunn, L. D. Knox, Lonnie Tatum, Scotty West and Dewbusters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Basey’s memory may be made to First Christian Church, 702 N. Mound, Nacogdoches, TX 75965 of Swearingen Interior Design Alumni Scholarship, P. O. Box 6090 SFA, Nacogdoches, TX 75962.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
