

Mr. Melancon was a WWII veteran and served as a machinist mate in the United States Navy. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and volunteered at the VA clinic. He retired from Texas Foundry after 37 years and also enjoyed working in his garden and eating the fruits of his labor. He was a member of Lufkin's First Baptist Church and Murray Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Melancon of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Bina Melancon of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Jed Holt of Cypress, TX; brother, Ed Melancon and his wife, Winnie Dell Melancon of Lufkin; sister, Betty Ray of Lufkin; grandchildren, Belinda and Jamie Southern and Brian and Christi Melancon; great-grandchildren, Ty and Maci Southern and Kassidy, Kade and Karson Melancon.
Mr. Melancon was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Campbell.
Pallbearers will be Jed Holt, Jamie Southern, Ty Southern, Zack Ecker, Brian Melancon and Billy Frank Ray.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Murray Sunday School Class.
Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Senior Adult Bus Fund, First Baptist Church, 106 E. Bremond Ave., Lufkin, TX 75901.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andy Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
