Dorothy Jo Register

She is lovingly survived by her children: Theresa Lyles and her husband Roy Lee of Lufkin, Texas; Billie Jo Register of Lufkin, Texas; Laura Steck and her husband Dale of Belleville, Texas; and Deborah Holcomb and her husband Christopher of Willis, Texas. Dorothy’s legacy lives on through her grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life: Stephanie Lyles and her husband Jeff Oliver of Hudson, Texas; Hollie and her husband Jerry Clark of Lufkin, Texas; RL Lyles and his wife Ashley of Lufkin, Texas; Mandi Phillips and her husband Avery of Lufkin, Texas; Cody Payovich of Nashville, Tennessee; Ashlee Maddox of Lufkin, Texas; Hayley Bessonnett and her husband Cody of Huntsville, Texas; Jacob Owens of Conroe, Texas; and Brianna Holcomb of Conroe, Texas. Dorothy was also blessed with 22 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Dorothy is survived by her siblings and extended family. These include her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Buck Sloan of Houston, Texas; her sister-in-law, Claudia Sue Luce of Lufkin, Texas; her brother-in-law, Joe Lee Register and his wife Barbara of Lufkin, Texas; her sister-in-law, Joyce Burnette of Huntington, Texas; and her sister-in-law, Charlotte Arnold and her husband Johnny of Onalaska, Texas. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Sue Register of Huntsville, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Charles Register (Billy Charles) of Lufkin, Texas; her father, Wilmer Grimes; her mother, Ora Rachel Grimes; her father-in-law, Claude Register; her mother-in-law, Minnie Sue Register; and her grandson, Canada William Payovich.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Gipson Funeral Home in Lufkin, with funeral services following immediately after at 2:00 PM. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Diboll.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Prairie Grove Cemetery Association, care of Neil Ford.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Owens, Hunter Burrous, Spencer Boddie, Avery Phillips, RL Lyles, and Dale Steck.

Honorary pallbearers are Tim Hammond, Cody Payovich, and Cameron Lyles.

Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering love of family and the legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion she leaves behind.
