

Edward "Eddie" McClelland Hurd, 92, of Diboll, was born August 30, 1919 in South Carlton, Kentucky, the son of the late Marqueritta (Murrietta) and James Edward Hurd. He passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012 in a local hospital.
Mr. Hurd was retired from the Water Department of the City of Houston. He attended school in Washington, D.C., New Orleans and Waco. He began playing music professionally at the age of 17 and played in the Al Marks Orchestra for 27 years. He lived in Houston for 36 years and moved to Diboll in 1981. He loved his family, was devoted to Karen and was a good father. He loved people and never met a stranger. Mr. Hurd was of the Lutheran Faith. He served his country with the United States Army in the 8th Infantry Division. He was a member of the Lufkin Community Band, Houston Profession Musicians' Association and was former Commander of the VFW Post 1836.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Lois Hale Hurd of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Sue and Ronnie Coleman of Conroe; granddaughters and their husbands, Leslie Ian and Josh Coe and Laura Leah and Alex Rodewald; great-grandchild, Alex Jay (A.J.) Edward Rodewald; sister, Esther Dovell of Winchester, Virginia; brother, Henry A. Hurd of Roseville, California; and a number of other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hurd was preceded in death by his brother, Frank T. Hurd; sister, Marie Hurd; and stepbrother, James Moore.
Pallbearers will be Alex Rodewald, Josh Coe, Will Lewis, Cody Wood, Derek Billingsley and David Karnes.
Services for Mr. Hurd will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Rick Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
