

Services for Edwin Monroe Aldredge, 84, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Mark Newton officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Aldredge was born July 21, 1932 in Keltys, Texas, the son of the late Ina (Hambrick) and Douglas Aldredge. He passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in a local hospital.
Mr. Aldredge graduated from Lufkin High School in 1949 and completed a Business Course at Pineywoods Business College. He was employed at First Bank & Trust in Lufkin for approximately 2 years in the Bookkeeping Department. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University while working at First Bank & Trust.
He served in the United States Navy for 4 years during the Korean War, entering the service in 1952. He was stationed at Hunters Point in San Francisco, California for 2 years in the Training Division. He was stationed aboard the USS Paricutin, AE-18, in the ship’s office for 2 years home-based at the Port Chicago Naval Magazine in Port Chicago, California and operated out of Sasebo, Japan re-arming the 7th Fleet. He maintained the ship’s office, personnel records and other ships personnel duties while serving under the direction of the ship’s executive officer.
Mr. Aldredge retired after 36 years from Champion International Paper Mill in April 1992 as Data Processing Operations Supervisor. He enjoyed playing golf in his earlier years and loved to cook. His pleasures of life were watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and watching their participation in school activities, band, orchestra and baseball as well as their outside of school activities such as baseball, softball, basketball, track, soccer and dance. He had a passion for carpentry and loved to build things out of wood. He was a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and Houston Rockets. He loved to travel and watch Old Western Movies. He really loved going to the shows in Branson, Missouri. Mr. Aldredge was a member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church since 1954. He worked with Juniors for several years and accompanied the RA boys on several field trips. His favorite Bible verse was Matthew 7:7: Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bartha Aliece (Couch) Aldredge; daughter and son-in-law, Alesa Diane and Kenneth Mark Baker of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Philip Edwin and Julie Lynn Aldredge of Tyler; grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Baker and wife Katie Ann, Jennifer Brooke Neuenschwander and husband David, Kelli Michelle Baker, Mason Philip Aldredge, and Brock Thomas Aldredge; great-grandchildren, Natalie Scarlett Baker, Elizabeth Aliece Baker, Sylvie Kate Baker, Reese Elizabeth Neuenschwander, and Jacob Lawrence Neuenschwander; sister, Tommie Lou Eldridge of Surprise, Arizona; and sister-in-law, Lawanda Faye Bright.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Aldredge was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Kay Aldredge; brother and sister-in-law, Bryant and Irene Aldredge; and brothers-in-law, J. P. Eldridge and Reverend Ira B. Bright.
Pallbearers will be Matt Baker, Mason Aldredge, Brock Aldredge, David Neuenschwander, Roger Parker, and Newt Courtney.
Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Mack Welch.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Aldredge’s memory may be made to Lufkin’s First Baptist Church Building Fund, 106 E. Bremond, Lufkin, TX 75901; or the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231-4596.
Mr. Aldredge’s family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dr. Michael Huber and Dr. Ravinder Bachireddy for the exceptional care given to him.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
