Ellen Evelyn (Spears) Gordon

Graveside services for Ellen Spears Gordon, 85, of Huntington, will be held at noon Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in the Bob Herrin Cemetery in Bon Wier, Texas with Reverend Paul Mettlen and her grandson, Reverend Michael Mettlen, officiating.

Mrs. Gordon, the daughter of the late Della (Herrin) and Samuel Ivy Spears, was born March 24, 1928 in Ruliff, Texas. She passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 in a Huntington care facility.

She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls. She loved her little animals, especially her three-legged Chihuahua, Precious. Mrs. Gordon was a people lover and enjoyed going to church and visiting her family. She also loved to drive the boat on fishing adventures. Ellen was a member of Chapel in the Pines Apostolic Church in Silsbee.

Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Shird and Evelyn Mettlen, both of Lufkin; sons, Tim Bass of Spurger, Texas, Donnie Bass of Huntsville, Texas and William Bass of Marlin, Texas; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Nichols of Spurger and Pauline Hopson of Burke; and many nieces and nephews.

In a addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Elisha Bass (father of her children), Donald Young and James “Son” Gordon; son, Roger Bass; daughter, Rachel Putnam; sisters, Celia Alford and Ruth Matthews; brother, Samuel Spears; 4 step-daughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Robert Mettlen, Jr., William Mettlen, Michael Mettlen, Gary Mettlen, Christian Mettlen and Barry Davis.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
