

Mr. Burrous was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was employed for a number of years as a dealer with Gulf Oil Corporation in Lufkin. He was known for listening and telling funny stories and enjoyed many days socializing at the Senior Citizens Center in Lufkin. Jack was a long-time member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army after World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Burrous of Lufkin; daughters, Jerry Ann Nerren of Lufkin, Linda Kay Cox of Lufkin and Carolyn Burrous of Nacogdoches; son, Billy Jack Burrous; stepsons, Starkey Sorrell, Jr. and wife Sheila of Lufkin, John Sorrell of Humble and Ryan Sorrell and wife Ellen of Lufkin; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Geraldine Burrous; daughter, Tabitha Burrous in 1976; and brother, William "Billy" Burrous.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Lloyd Burrous, Randy Arnold, Ryan Sorrell, John Sorrell, Starkey Sorrell, Jr., and Grant Sorrell.
Services for Jack will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Charles Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
