George Ramsey Roach

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Iris Nell Whittington; second wife, Betty Zane Aldredge; and special friend, Jennie Brashear Caton.

He is survived by his sons, Guy and Steve; five grandsons (Jeff, Greg, Bryce, Matthew, and Andrew); six great-grandchildren {Madison, Owen, Miller, Alaina, Lilly, and Liam); and cousin, Lynn Hawkins.

A 1936 graduate of Lufkin High and a life-long resident of Lufkin, he attended every Panther home football, basketball, and baseball game for decades until a serious car accident in 2013.

Ramsey was a 60+ year member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church and the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669, A.F. & A.M. He held leadership positions in both, including past Master Mason. After retiring from Lufkin Industries in 1984, he dedicated much of his time to doing volunteer church work and visiting patients at the assisted living facilities in town. He was a true friend of all mankind.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel.
