Mrs. Burrous, 88, passed from this world to Heaven's peace on Thursday, April 4, 2013. Georgia was born March 1, 1925 in Shidler, Oklahoma to Ralph and Hester Jenkins. She had resided in Lufkin since 1961.
Her survivors include her three sons, Starkey Sorrell, Jr and wife Sheila of Lufkin, John Sorrell of Humble and Ryan Sorrell and wife Ellen, also of Lufkin; grandchildren, Michael Sorrell and wife Mona of Flint, Starla Sorrell Hill and husband Kipp Hill of Diboll, Shelby Sorrell Nerren and husband Rance Nerren of College Station, Ashley Sorrell Wyckoff and husband Chet Wyckoff of Gulfport, Mississippi, Grant Sorrell of Humble, Laura Sorrell of Austin and Nancy Sorrell of College Station; brother, Floyd Jenkins of Houston; sister, Pat Wilson of Houston; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 42 years, Gary Jack Burrous; and beloved daughter Tabitha.
Georgia was a "people watcher" and enjoyed numerous days sitting at the mall with the "mall group" and sharing in conversation. She and Jack also spent many pleasurable hours at the Senior Citizens Center in Lufkin. Georgia was a long-time member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church, where she and Jack attended The Bible Surveyors Sunday School class. During her working career, she served as receptionist for Dr. Andrew Jordan in the late 60s and early 70s, bookkeeper for her husband's Gulf dealership, and also as manager of several storage centers here in Lufkin. Georgia was known to be very vocal and highly opinionated but greatly enjoyed gatherings, sharing dinners out, and laughter of people. Getting "all dressed up" and going out to dinner with family or friends was one of her delights.
Georgia's family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the patience and care extended to her over the past couple of years to the Grace Care Nursing Facility. Great gratitude and appreciation is also extended to Barbara Parker for taking Georgia to church after her husband Jack passed away and to Heart 2 Heart Hospice of Lufkin for their dedication to her care. Her decision to accept Christ, while living in Troup, Texas as a young mother, brings comfort to the family and confirmation that she is at peace at last and with those she missed and loved.
Memorial contributions in Georgia's memory may be made to Heart 2 Heart Hospice, 210 Christie, Lufkin, Texas, 75901; Angelina County Senior Citizens Center, 2801 Valley Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75901; or to an organization of your choice.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Sunday at Gipson Funeral Home.
