Wayne was born on August 24, 1938, in Orange, Texas. He graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree that would serve as the foundation for a life marked by dedication, discipline, and achievement.
Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. He was first stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana and later at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, where he served as a missile combat crew commander with the Minuteman 341st Missile Wing. His service reflected his strong sense of duty and commitment to his nation.
Following his military service, Wayne built a long and successful career with Temple Industries, where he worked for 35 years. His work took him to New York, Evadale, and Diboll, Texas, where he established lasting relationships and made meaningful contributions throughout his career.
Wayne was a man of many passions and a vibrant personality. He took great pride in his “Wayne’s World” room, where he displayed over 2,000 model cars, numerous trophies, and his large, personally built electric model train layout—a true reflection of his creativity and dedication.
He was a longtime member of the Houston MG Car Club and the Texas MG Register, where he shared his deep love for all things English—cars, toys, food, and even his sense of humor about his preferences. Later in life, he joined the East Texas Corvette Club, humorously noting the importance of owning a car with air conditioning. In retirement, he enjoyed participating in car shows and volunteering with C.V.A.R., a racing club where he worked in the fast pits, often dressed in bright, colorful clothing to ensure drivers could see him on the track.
Wayne was also active in his community and civic life. A proud Republican, he enjoyed attending the state convention and working with the Angelina County Republican Party.
He is survived by his loving wife, Isabel Hardy; his sister, Doris Moses; his son and daughter-in-law, Graham and Mimi Hardy; his daughter, Jennifer Crowder; and his cherished grandchildren, Kristen Crowder and Kennen Crowder.
He was preceded in death by daughter Julia Hardy.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Amanda Allen, N.P at Lufkin Lifestyle and Family Medicine, and Nurse Anna along with all the other employees with Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026, from 4-6pm at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall located at 208 Devereaux Street, Diboll, Texas 75941. A private family celebration of life will be held later in Angola, Indiana.
Wayne will be remembered for his service, his passions, his humor, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, please vote Republican.
