Hazel Inez Helmer Featherston

Services Hazel Inez (Helmer) Featherston, 74, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, January 4, 2015 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Owen, Rev. Tom McMahn and Bro. Michael Durham officiating. Interment will follow in Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mrs. Featherston was a medication aid with the special needs population. She was a Christian and served by teaching youth groups in Sunday School and the Missionettes. She was a member of the Assembly of God church. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to cook and host parties in her home.

She was born March 9, 1940 in Dime Box, TX and passed away January 1, 2015 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Daisy (Warren) and Walter Helmer.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila Durham of Lufkin, Rhonda Poepke and Jon of Coon Rapids, MN and Peggy Wells and Anthony of Lufkin; grandchildren, Michael Durham, Seth Poepke, Peyton Wells, Cole Poepke, Ashlyn Wells, Franchesca Martin and husband, Eddie and Mikka Harris; two great-grandchildren, William Martin and Knlyee Martin; sister, Lavern Childress of Midlothian, TX; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Featherston; daughter, Shirley; very special son-in-law, Randy Durham; brother, Walter Helmer and his wife, Irene; and niece, Vicki Helmer.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
