Helen Elizabeth Freeman

Services for Helen Elizabeth Freeman, 89, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Pete Freeman and Reverend Greg Schwartz officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.

Mrs. Freeman was born July 28, 1927 in Gilliam, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Lessie (Sutherland) and Rhobie Hobson White. She passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in a local hospice facility.

Mrs. Freeman was a devoted wife for 65 years and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an amazing seamstress. One of her best known projects was making teddy bears for children and adults across Angelina County and beyond. Another of her great loves was written correspondence. Her caring heart could be felt in the encouraging words of a simple card or letter. Upon completion of her professional career, Mrs. Freeman retired as the Office Manager of the Texas Forestry Association. She was a life-long member of Lufkin’s First Baptist Church, and a direct descendent of Francis Scott Key.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas “Boe” Freeman of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Greg Schwartz of Beaumont; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Janet Freeman and Johnny and Susie Freeman; son, Tom M. Freeman Jr. of Lufkin; granddaughters, Jennifer Hannah, Lindsey Lee and Kelsey Schwartz; grandsons, Gerald Freeman Jr., and Eric Freeman; 7 great-grandchildren; and special niece, Mary Lee Dunn.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia McCabe and Georgia Dunn.

Pallbearers will be Gerald Freeman, Jr., Eric Freeman, Larry Wisener, Kevin Wisener, Jordan Wisener, and Rick McCabe.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Wisener, Philip White, Charles Freeman and Jim McCabe.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Freeman’s memory may be made to Lufkin’s First Baptist Church, 103 E. Bremond, Lufkin, TX 75901; or to Bald Hill Baptist Church, 128 Leon Tillman, Lufkin, TX 75901.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
