Horace Ray Russell

Services for Ray Russell, 77, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Fred Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery.

Mr. Russell was born February 21, 1936 in Jasper, Texas, the son of the late Anne C. (Bevil) and Horace Nathan Russell. He went to his eternal home on Monday, September 2, 2013 in Ft. Worth after a long illness.

Mr. Russell was a devoted father and grandfather and loved his family. He enjoyed cooking and taking care of his plants. He was a retired bookkeeper. Mr. Russell served his country in the United States Army.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Taylor and Denise Russell of Burleson; granddaughter, Rebecca Russell; grandson, John Russell; sisters, Sue Carroll and Pat Allen; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Karen Lea Russell; and sister, Ruth Russell Rusk.

Pallbearers will be Jack Jumper, Jeremy Ross, Scott Stanford and Stephen Walker.

Mr. Russell’s family wishes to express their appreciation to all of his caregivers at Castle Pines Health & Rehabilitation Center and to Dr. Sean Moran for the care shown to him over a 20-year time.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
