James "J.C." McGaughey

Services for James “J. C.” McGaughey, 81, of Lufkin, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Horace Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. McGaughey was born February 1, 1932 in Huntington, Texas, the son of the late Mandy Marie (Mott) and Otto McGaughey. He passed away Monday, September 2, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. McGaughey was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born in and attended school in Huntington. He worked on the family farm growing cotton. He began working at Texas Foundry in November 1955 and retired in March 1994. He married Palma Miles in 1958. He loved his family and was an awesome family man. Mr. McGaughey enjoyed gardening, especially growing watermelons and tomatoes. He was a member of Highway Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Palma Miles McGaughey of Lufkin; children, Keith McGaughey and wife Julie, Kathy Foster and husband Travis, Karen Graham and Kristie Maxon, all of Lufkin; grandchildren, Brent Graham and wife Brandy, Jessica Madera and husband Jose, Ashley Maxon and husband Micheal Linstrom, Brandon McGaughey, Alyson McGaughey, Mia Tamez and Pup; great-grandchildren, Krysta Madera, Tommy Harvel, Haylee Linstrom and Hannah Graham; and a number of other family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McGaughey was preceded in death by 1 sister; 4 brothers, and son-in-law, Bryan Graham.

Pallbearers will be Kent McGaughey, J. W. Watson, Bradley Reed, Glen Shivers, David Evans, and Linwood McGaughey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jose Madera, Travis Foster, Cory Clemens, and Jim Billingsley.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
