Janice was born November 18, 1958, in Lufkin, Texas, to Jasper and Mary Cockrell. She attended Corrigan-Camden High School and Stephen F. Austin State University where she graduated in 1981. On January 2, 2015, Janice married Steve Cramb, her partner of 10 years.
Janice’s childhood was spent in Corrigan, Texas, but she lived most of her life in Houston where she was a certified expert in her field of information technology and business systems auditing. For the past seven years, Janice was planning and procedures specialist at Eni Petroleum.
Janice will be remembered as a life nurturer – of her gardens, pets and the family members she held so dear. However, her strength and courage would become the hallmarks of her life as she overcame many trials that would test her resolve. She lived life as she wanted to live it, and she knew no boundaries in caring for others. Her strength of character and unselfish regard for the welfare of her family and friends was most evident at the end of her life. Janice was truly the captain of her soul.
Janice is survived by her husband, Steve of Houston; her sisters and their families, Wanda and Lynn Clamon of Livingston, Carolyn Cockrell Elmore of Austin, Beverly Cockrell and Jesse Castillo of Corrigan; nieces and nephews, Elisha and Bo Bell of Bridge City, Shana and Patrick Dickens of Livingston, Reagon and Julie Clamon of Castroville, Meredith Snowberger of Pflugerville, and Christopher and Stacey Smelley of Houston. Her parents preceded her in death.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Acute Palliative Care Unit at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at the Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Corrigan, Texas at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015, followed by interment of ashes at Union Springs Cemetery. Guests are invited to refreshments on the church grounds following the service and interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675, or to the Animal Rescue Charity of your choice.
