Services for Joe C. Anthony, 82, of Lufkin, were held on Friday, April 19, 2019 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Jimmy Hedges officiating. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Mr. Anthony was born March 9, 1937 in Diboll, Texas, the son of the late Oveda (Johnson) and Jeffie M. Anthony. He passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at Hospice in The Pines.
Mr. Anthony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a retired Post Master from the United States Postal Service following many years of employment. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and farming. Mr. Anthony was a member and officer of the Lufkin Rotary Club, charter member and officer of the Angelina Rotary Club, member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, Shelter Coordinator of the Lufkin Emergency Preparedness Team, and past president of the Texas Baptist Men of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Anthony served his country in the Army National Guard and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Anthony is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frankie E. “Sissy” Anthony of Lufkin; daughters, Terry Lynne Carter and husband David of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Cindy “Peanut” Anthony of Forney; son, Mark T. Anthony of Lufkin; son-in-law, Neil Blackwell of Houston; grandchildren, Katy and Bryan Roberts of McKinney, Julie Carter of Denver, Colorado, Laura Carter of Littleton, Colorado, and Aron and Kelle Blackwell of Houston; great-grandchildren, Parker, Hayes and Lily Roberts of McKinney; brother and sister-in-law, Charles K. and Naomi Anthony of Diboll; nephew, Ray Anthony and wife Teresa of Diboll; and niece, Sandra Anthony of Diboll.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Anthony was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn Jo Blackwell.
Pallbearers were David Carter, Neil Blackwell, Bryan Roberts, Aron Blackwell, Ray Anthony and Jerry Mettlen.
Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy McCall, Claude E. Welch, Jerry King and David Bennet.
