Joe was a special person, far beyond his disability. He loved spending time with his family and carried a joyful, happy spirit wherever he went. Everyone who knew Joe loved him. He had a megawatt smile that he shared freely with almost everyone he met. Joe loved music and dancing—he was always the first one on the dance floor and the last one to leave.
Survivors include parents, Tony and Angee Owens of Lufkin and Rita Owens of Lufkin; brothers, Justin Pope and wife, Beka of Leander, Mike Owens and wife, Leticia of Kingwood, and David Owens of Lufkin; nieces and nephews, Bryson Pope, McKenzie Pope, Ethan Owens, Bella Owens, and Lilly Owens; grandmother, Nelda Ruby; aunts and uncles, Grant and Jo Dugger of Zavala, Bill Pope of Tyler, Nancy Owens of Lufkin, Candi Underwood of Waxahachie; several cousins; and special friends.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Willbur and Nellie Owens, LaVerne and Chuck Pope, and Joe Ruby; and uncle Nick Owens.
