Services for John H. “Johnny” Permenter, 94, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Herty Baptist Church, with Bro. Charles Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Berry Cemetery.
Mr. Permenter was born July 16, 1924 in Joaquin, Texas, the son of the late Josie Lea (Sims) and John Windham Permenter. He passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 in a local hospital.
Mr. Permenter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was retired from the Holsum Bread Company and Coburn’s Supply. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Permenter was a Deacon and Member of Herty Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 70 years.
He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, watching baseball, westerns, and “Law and Order”. He loved meeting and talking with people.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Permenter of Lufkin; daughter, Debra Permenter of Arlington, Texas; sons, David Permenter of Arlington and Jeffrey Permenter of Lufkin; grandchildren, Brian Permenter and Lacie Panknin and husband Jeff; great-grandchildren, Abby Panknin, Elijah Marquez, Megan Panknin, Caleb Marquez and Levi Marquez; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Permenter was preceded in death by his brothers, Mickey Permenter and Bob Permenter; and sisters, Frances Sirman, Aileen Lewis, Wenona Thornton and Mary Barton.
Pallbearers will be Brian Permenter, Jeff Panknin, Joe Permenter, Randy Permenter, Jason Permenter, Larmie Blount and Dick Jay.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Herty Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gipson Funeral Home.
